Reading Expectations and Who is Reading What?

There is the expectation at Simon de Senils that children are reading to an adult at least three times a week. This needs to be recorded in the reading log and signed by an adult. Please write comments about the book: What is it you like? Who is your favourite character? What is the plot? Mr Prosser will check weekly, sign and leave you a comment.

We encourage you to read all types of text; your target can include reading newspapers, magazines or even song lyrics – what do you enjoy reading?

What are you reading? Is it good? What is it about?

From the comments, you can see who is reading what… Would be great to take this into a conversation! Perhaps your peer is reading a book you read last month?

  1. Manga (Anime is technically a japanese cartoon, and most movies are anime in japan) such as wolf children, my neighbour totoro and nausicaa. And loads of cartoons in japan are anime (yuki yuna is a hero, bleach, fairy tale and others for older people such as death note and battle royal) here’s the description for Wolf children VVV it has a bit of love but its funny at moments, violent (oviously) And the rating is PG because it says a few mild words, but nothing futher than heck (I’m happy I have the book 😀
    1. Hana is a 19-year-old student who falls in a “fairy-tale like” love with a “wolf man”. Over the course of the 13-year story Hana gives birth to two children – older sister Yuki, and younger brother Ame, or “Snow and Rain”. At first the family quietly lives in the city trying to hide their wolf heritage, but when the “wolf man” suddenly dies Hana makes the decision to move to a rural town, far from their previous city life.

  3. My Book

Hi I am Maesun and the book I am reading about right now is called Double Act by Jacqueline Wilson. It is about two identical twins called Garnet and Ruby and they are trying to stop their dad marrying a woman called Rose. They live in a house full of books with their granny and dad. Their granny used to design gowns and the twins loved looking in at the women’s underwear! Their mum died when they were seven and when their parents were dating their dad gave their mum an opal ring because her name was Opal! Garnet and Ruby think that their dad will give Rose the opal ring! They have to stop dad before it’s too late…

    • I’m enjoying reading this with you Maesun! What a great review too- nice cliffhanger, can’t wait to find out what happens…

  4. I am currently reading The Maze Runner, a book about a 16 year old boy who had his memory wiped and transported into an earth sized arena. His name is Thomas, that is only thing that he can remember, the only thing that anyone can remember. The mysterious place that he was transported to was called the Glade, populated by Gladers. There are around 36 Gladers, one appears every month. The Gladers have to survive and escape the glade. The only problem with that is that it is surrounded by a maze, a maze that moves. The runners are people that scout the maze through the day, and the day ONLY. This is because there are creatures called Grievers, which are half mechanical giant bugs with an injection that will make you insane and most likely become a psychopath. Thomas’ dream is to be a runner. To help find a way out of this cage. After becoming a runner, Thomas is told that the runners have explored all of the maze. It was split up into 7 sectors. In sector 7 Thomas sees a mysterious hole in a wall. He explores into it and then finds the home of the Grievers. Later on they kill a Griever and find something that will cure anyone that has been ‘stung’. This is as far as I have got so far, and I think that it is a great book. This book has 3 sequels, the scorcher trials and the death trials? Since I have seen the film, I know that the scorcher trials will be in a world overrun by scorching sand, tumbled skyscrapers and dead bodies, although this is all in one arena. People being tested for survival and proving that the human race will be capable of surviving the apocalypse, although these people have been forced to prove the human race. We can tell this as Thomas had flashbacks of working at a science centre and being put in a pod that puts him in a virtual reality world that is perfectly detailed by the atom to replicate the planet earth after the apocalypse, could this be the end of the world?

  5. I’m currently reading David Walliams book- Grandpas Great Escape. It’s a fantastic book full of adventure and dilemmas. It’s about a 12 year old boy called Jack who finds that the most important person in the world to him is in danger… his grandpa! Jack finds himself in the situation to keep his grandpa in his own idea of safe and lets him escape. Then he climbs up to the spire of a church and pretends to go back to when he flew a spitfire in WW2. Jack then finds himself letting go…

Barry loser is my absolute favourite book in the universe it is far more diverse than all other books like captain underpants. It is way more interesting than all others I have read, it is amazing how the drawings of the noses are formed, that is also one of my favourite features of the book. Talking about drawings the author of the book and the illustrator, Jim Smith, is amazing.

  7. Hello my name is Esther and at the minute I am reading one of Francesca Simon’s books, can you guess? It’s a Horrid Henry book, Hilariously Horrid Joke Book. As you can probably tell it’s a joke book and its got a lot of jokes in. Here is a bit of information about Francesca Simon; she spent her childhood on a beach in California, and then went to Yale and Oxford Universities to study medieval history and literature. She now lives in London with her English husband and their son. When she is not writing books she is chasing after her Tibetan Spaniel, Shanti. Here is some information about Tony Ross; He is one of Britain’s best known illustrators, with many picture books to his name as well as line drawings for many fiction titles. He lives in Oxfordshire.

  8. My favourite book is Captain Underpants, because it’s a book from America made in 2012 also it has a thing called flip-o-rama, you left hand and your index finger or your thumb on the right then it looks alive! I like it because it’s a book that makes you laugh, smile & joke around. There are six comics books all about his and their adventures here are some books about it {The Adventures of Captain Underpants, Captain Underpants and the Attack of the Talking Toilets, Captain Underpants and the Terrifying Re-Turn of Tippy Tinkle-trousers, Captain Underpants and the Tyrannical Retaliation of the Turbo Toilet 2000} These are my favorites book there in the brackets. I enjoy it because it’s one of the most enjoyable book I’ve ever read! I suggest that other people should read it because you will start to laugh sing and you’ll do anything you will do to enjoy, share, and read and read, read! So I suggest you should read it. I hope you like it and tell your friends !

  9. What Book Am I Reading? Fairy Tales – The Brothers Grim
Mr Prosser, our class teacher, lent me this book and I am very glad that he did. As you may have guessed by the tittle this book is a collection of all the original fairy tales ever written. It was a book written in the past so the structure and the words used to create the story are slightly old fashioned however, I think that this really ‘sets the scene ‘. Memories grow when reading this book for example when I was younger, though I’m not that old now! , I used to be in love with the DVD Barbie and the Twelve Dancing Princesses. When I read the original tale I fell in love with the idea of having a secret garden to be in my own world. Who wouldn’t want that? It was also great to read your classics like Rumpelstiltskin, Bria Rose and Snow White with Rose Red. Can you guess which tale this came from? Clever Gretel. There are many different stories in this book and I would highly recommend it. There are also some brilliant art sketches inside the velvet, green cover so indulge your eyes. Go on. Take a look through the internet. A book is an adventure – and an adventure is the beginning of a lifetime…

you ever begun a book and never wanted to put it down? Or perhaps you have wanted to be the heroine in a story with long flowing hair down to your waist? You are a hero so go and write your story …

  10. Sleuth On Skates is an a amazing book about a girl who has to solve a big mystery which she has been waiting for eleven years, five months and seventeen days. Also she became a supersleuth on skates which she really wanted to become. I personally think that this book is an amazing book and that you should read it. It is a long book with 215 pages of excitement I recommend this book. The book was written by Clementine Beauvais and it was illustrated by Sarah Horne.

  11. hacker by Malorie blackman is action thriller for kids about clearing fathers illegal record for robbing the bank that he works in but hes incant but the cops don’t think so apparently the evidence’s is in the file of the computer so his sun became a hacker just to clear his file to save his dad would you? he became a criminal just save his dad and hes determent to prove his innocents in the hacker way recommended

  12. The book that I am reading at this day and age is Harry Potter And The Order Of The Phoenix. It is a sensational book and the description level is flawless. Straight away in the first page the detail punches you in a face; when you read on through the next couple minutes you realize that the standard of everything blows the roof off of the place that you are at.
From the first moment you read it to where you read to ignites the story in the mind, makes sure that you can’t get it out of your mind so that you would read on. Dark times have come to Hogwarts. After the dementors attack on his cousin Dudley, Harry knows that Voldemort will stop at nothing to find him. Exceptional! The cliff hanger is unbelievable.
I recommend this book to anybody and everybody, so if you get the chance to read it PLEASE do.

  13. I am reading Grandpas Great Escape by David Walliams

I find it really cool and it is about a granddad that was a World War 2 pilot that tells his grandson his stories of being an R.A.F pilot and he gets an incurable illness and he forgets his recent life and forgets that his grandson has been born and his grandson has to play along and is called wing commander and his granddad has been found in the cockpit of a spitfire and he is sent to prison and his grandson was in the interrogation room with him. I need to read on!

  14. Girl Online
This book has a lot of emotion and it has to be my favourite book ever and the author is one of my favourite you tubers. The storyline is so moving it makes me want to write a story like Girl Online. My favourite character has to be Penny: a clumsy, helpful, girl who has a famous blog that everyone follows. She mentions her super embarrassing moments and asks or gives advice. Although her life is quite glamorous she suffers anxiety and has panic attacks from time to time ever since she had a car crash. She travels to New York with her BFF Elliot as her mother is organising a Downten Abbey wedding. She meets a guitar strumming Noah: a devilishly handsome boy who may have a secret to. If you want to find out his secret read this book. I recommend this book. It is so good I even recommended this book to my teacher, Mr Prosser. You won`t regret it.

  15. I’m reading ‘Diary of the wimpy kid’ ‘the ugly truth’ by Jeff Kinney so far it is a very good book, and it’s telling me what’s happening and it giving an image in my head so I can see what the author is describing so then I can say like ‘oh that’s happening but why?’ and I would look around the book to see if I can answer my question. The reason why I like this book is because it’s really interesting of how he has lost his best friend ‘Rowly Jefferson’ and he is trying to get him back, his parents have been paying a boy to play Rowly and sometimes when the person was ill they would get an-other person and make them look like him. I like it really mean of what they are doing to him because they are paying people to play with him so then he would get a new best friend. The mane character is trying to get his friend back.

  16. Girl Online –Zoe Sugg
Zoe Sugg is an inspirational Youtuber that inspired her successful career to write a book called ‘Girl online. So far I have got up to chapter 13 and so far it has taken me on an emotional rollercoaster ,much like Zoe’s life. Personally think that girls going through a hard time relate to this book very well; the book was written by the thoughts in her 12 year old self so it’s almost like getting an inside into Zoe’s life!

  17. I am reading the goblet of fire (Harry Potter). I am only five pages in but I expect that it is going to be really good, I have seen the film but books are created before a film is created for it. On account of this I think the book is going to be a hint different. This book is about Harry Potter being chosen by the Goblet of fire to enter a Triwizard tournament . Where he goes through three different challenges. The first challenge is : trying to capture a golden egg from a vicous dragon. The second challenge is: deafeating many powerful sea creatures so he can help a friend back to the surface. The third challenge is: going through a bush maze to find the goblet of fire but the bushes vines attack him. When Harry grabs the goblet of fire he gets sent to you now who (Voldemort)…

    Pop stars

Dork diaries is about mostly a girl called Niki; a enemy of Niki is Maxine. Anyway, Maxine was there at table 6 and was right at the front videoing and sending it onto YouTube.

  19. I am reading ‘The Anti-Bully Machine’ by Paul Shipton so far it is amazing ,and it paints a image in my head. It is about a boy how starts where a new boy starts at a high school were a terrible mean boy is making fun out of him. Then a boy starts to be friends with him he is called Neil Gregory. His very thankful boy and a very helpful boy. I really like this book it is realy funny.!

  20. At the moment I’m reading the amazing book with the name of Pig Heart Boy. I wasn’t sure whether I was going to enjoy Pig Heart Boy because I thought it was going to be quite gross. But this book quickly gripped me. I really wanted to know whether Cam was going to live or die. I haven’t finished Pig Heart Boy but I really love this book. It has so many twists and turns. I would highly recommend this book to children aged 10-11. The moment I read the first word in this book I was instantly gripped to the book. I loved this It because of the high level description. The author uses great punctuation: semi colons, colons, dashes and brackets.

  21. I am reading Hampers Great Escape

I find it really fun its about a hamster that is trying to escape from his cage because the owner didn’t do a instruction right in the owners granddads house the owners name Is Sam and his sister Clare.

  22. I read a book called Journey to the River Sea which was created by Eva Ibbotson. This book is about a girl Maia who is an orphan because sadly her parents died in a car crash at Egypt, so Maia has to find a new family. In this book Maia meets a new friend on the way
    Called Miss Minton.

  23. I am reading the book of mysterious things; Believe It Or Not! It`s very interesting but at the same time very weird. It is made up of the strangest things in the world. Like a person has a McDonalds receipt on his arm: a melon monster made out of water melon shaped like a monster a chocolate tea pot.

  24. My favourite book is Match Day 2016 it is about football and it tells you all about football players and all of the leagues like the BPL and the Bundesliga. It also tells you information about like when the stadium was built and its shows you pictures of what it looked like then and then it shows you what it now looks now the comparison. It tells you about what the players say in interviews and it’s a very good book if you’re into football. There is sections about every team so whatever team you support you can look at that page and see what they put. Sometimes it tells you what cars they have and what team they might be interested in moving to. It tells you what amounts of money they get and when they move teams it tells you what wages they want and it’s just a very good book if you want to look at football information. It tells you about the managers when they are sacked or something like that. I really like the book because I really like football so that’s why I always read this book also I’ve read all of the Match Day live books so I always enjoy them.
